How to Get Fresh Information in Google Search — Or Why You Might Consider Switching to Brave
If you’ve ever used Google to search for the latest trends, news, or even photography gear updates, you’ve probably noticed something frustrating: many top results are outdated. Pages from five or even ten years ago often outrank fresh content, which makes it hard to find the most recent and relevant information.
Use Google’s Time Filter for Updated Results
One helpful tip: Google has a time filter that lets you limit search results to more recent content.
Here’s how to use it:
Search your topic as usual (e.g. “best mirrorless camera for portraits”).
Click on Tools under the search bar.
You’ll see a dropdown labeled Any time — click that and select Past year, Past month, or Past 24 hours depending on how recent you want the results to be.
This simple filter helps cut through outdated advice and get closer to what’s current.
But Even That Has Limits…
Google’s algorithm sometimes still favors massive websites with old content over smaller, newer blogs—even if the fresh content is more accurate. This is where alternative search engines like Brave shine. Brave Search puts newer, independent sources in front of users more often. It doesn’t lean heavily on what’s popular—it values relevance and recency.
I personally use Brave Search more often when I need fresh photography-related info, like gear releases, lighting tools, or SEO trends for creative businesses.
